Amelia Noyes is an illustrator and the founder of Amelia Noyes Design in Los Angeles, California. She has made a name for herself on social media by creating timely and dainty designs of members of the British royal family. Some of her work has even been featured in magazines! Amelia is launching her holiday collection November 1st… so we wanted to know what “drew” Amelia to the royal family and what keeps her inspired…
Kinsey Schofield: How did you discover the royal family, what is your earliest memory?
Amelia Noyes: My earliest memory of the royals? My mom purchased a Princess Diana set and had brought that home and given it to me in 1992 as a child.
KS: We love Di. What is it about the royal family that inspires you?
AN: I’ve always been interested in history, fashion, and art-based information and each person is an individual personality with goals that are honorable. Also, the royals historically have had some of the most fashionable moments in history. It’s fun to memorialize those moments in my illustrations. I also think it’s important when people use their platforms for good as well, which the royal family does on a regular basis regardless of the rank of the individual.
KS: Do you ever plan events around royal ceremonies, weddings? Just for fun?
AN: I have only scratched the surface around weddings and events. I worked with The Knot and created a customized illustration for the magazine and it turned out really cool.
KS: How would you describe your artwork, what is the style?
AN: Abstract impressionist. I like the audience to see what they want to see. It gives people who are viewing my work the opportunity to think outside of the box and it’s open to interpretation.
KS: I think I found you through a Meghan Markle photo. What do you love about Meghan? Why is she a fun subject?
AN: Meghan has a passion for helping others and fighting for what’s right. She sets out to impact the world with a positive impact. She’s incredibly thoughtful about her decisions down to her clothing and accessories.
KS: One of my favorite photos of yours is of Kate Middleton. I don’t know if it’s considered a shadow but it’s the contrast between a baby blue and then this caramel color. How do you feel about the Duchess?
AN: Kate is very stylish as well. I love the fact that she recycles her dresses and mixes designer with High Street. Kate’s charities are also exceptionally important and I love the issues she backs which include mental health.
KS: Do you turn your portraits into other products?
AN: I offer a wide variety of products which include royals inspired artwork on coffee mugs, cards, apparel, phone cases, prints. I also offer original artwork that is embellished with metallic paint and glitter! Honestly, it’s a lot of glitter, but I love it.
KS: Do you have a favorite print?
AN: One of the most popular prints that I sell is the Queen of Coats print. I love the bright colors in the Queen of Coats print. I think it’s a lot of fun and a bright pop of color that will cheer anyone up. I also love this fashion print with Queen Elizabeth and Anna Wintour. I think it’s unique and different. I’m trying to figure out how to use it in a better way as a design.
KS: How can people stay in contact with you and shop your store?
AN: My holiday collection will be launching Nov 1st and will be available for a limited time. www.amelianoyesdesign.com @iamnoyes
