Royal watchers are telling Entertainment Tonight that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are struggling to settle down in Los Angeles.
Translation: Finding Freedom is more difficult than they expected.
Between the paparazzi and coronavirus numbers soaring in the state of California, Katie Nicholl believes that the Sussex’s move has been “upsetting” and that they would have had more privacy had they stayed in the U.K.
“There is no doubt in my mind that if they were still living at Frogmore House in Windsor, there would not be this level of intrusion. It simply would not be tolerated,” she said confidently. “If they had gone to L.A. hoping for a quieter life, where they could duck out of the spotlight, they were sorely mistaken.”
In regards to Prince Harry specifically, Nicholl stresses concern. “It is a difficult time for Prince Harry. Harry doesn’t have the infrastructure in L.A. that Meghan has. She’s got her mother, [Doria Ragland], she’s got close friends. Harry has none of that,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
“He has the added pressure of now having to forge a new life for himself in a country without an infrastructure, and without the level of support that he enjoyed when he was a prince of England,” Nicholl explains. “I think there is a great sense of trepidation for Prince Harry. As much as he is optimistic about the future, I think he’s nervous about the future as well. I think he is apprehensive.” She continues, “He doesn’t have a clear plan ahead of him. And I think it is probably quite daunting for him.”
Enter infamous Princess Diana biographer Andrew Morton. In a piece for the Mirror, Morton says that Harry’s alleged participation in Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie’s, Finding Freedom, “not just burnt his bridges with the royal family but buried the ashes too.”
Finding Freedom confirms months, if not years, of speculation that Prince William and Prince Harry are no longer as close as they once were. The book indicates that the two originally argued over the Duchess of Sussex.
Morton explains, “Diana, who doted on both of her sons, would be devastated to witness the breakdown of Harry’s relationship with William.” As mentioned in his book Diana: Her True Story, Morton reiterates to the Mirror audience that Diana took great comfort in knowing that Prince William (the future King of England) would be able to lean on his brother for support. As the author put it, “A loyal lieutenant, in the way Princess Margaret was to the Queen.”
Can Prince William, who is notoriously private, forgive his brother for allegedly spilling sovereign secrets? Princess Diana was cut off after her secret Panorama interview.
Morton’s most damning lines make a chilling comparison, “While there’s no doubt Diana would be very upset and distressed at the way things have turned out between her beloved sons, it’s impossible to ignore the parallels between Harry and his mum. Like Diana, Harry is reckless and impatient in the face of turmoil.”
