“Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends!”
On Tuesday Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially launched their Archewell Audio podcast with a holiday special featuring Brené Brown, Tyler Perry, Sir Elton John, James Corden, Deepak Chopra and Naomi Osaka to name a few.
“Telling and listening to uplifting and entertaining stories have been a vital part of many of our lives this past year,” says the initial press release announcing the launch of their podcast.
“What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction,” The Sussexes said in their joint statement. “With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other’s stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are.”
They described their first episode, a holiday special, as “stories of hope and compassion from inspirational guests in celebration of the new year.”
The 33 minute long podcast explores how people have handled the last year. Both Tyler Perry and Brené Brown said that they deal with the pandemic one day at a time. Sir Elton John explained how Zoom had become such a life saver during a difficult year. Everyone offered hope and predictions for 2021.
In addition to the names mentioned above, the podcast also features Christina Adane, Jose Andres, Rachel Cargle, Stacey Abrams, Matt Haig, Hussain Manawer, and George the Poet.
The couple submitted similar questions to everyone and built the podcast around their answers.
“We were curious to hear what they’d reflect on when they had a moment to themselves without navigating the sometimes awkward dance of a video chat,” Prince Harry jokes. “Meaning, no one having to say ‘you’re on mute’ over and over again… which is probably one of the defining phrases of 2020.”
Archewell Audio is available exclusively through Spotify and you can currently sign up for 3 months for free.
On December 15th, To Di For Daily‘s Kinsey Schofield spoke to the BBC about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming podcast. Schofield suggested that The Sussexes would be calling on friends like Tyler Perry and Brené Brown. She also suggested that they hear a little from baby Archie!
Are The Sussexes listening? We’d like to think so!
