The Duchess of York has written a book inspired by her great-great aunt – Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott. Try saying that name five times fast. While being described as a fictional account of the life and love story of Lady Margaret, Her Heart For a Compass by Sarah Ferguson with Marguerite Kaye is said to pull from not only Ferguson’s family tree but Fergie’s own “personal journeys.”
An experienced author, this is Fergie’s first crack at historical fiction. The Duchess has written numerous children’s books plus works of nonfiction. No stranger to Hollywood, after writing two books about Queen Victoria, she helped create the film The Young Victoria, an award-winning movie that stars Emily Blunt and features a Princess Beatrice cameo!
Fergie tells People Magazine, “With this book, I could completely immerse myself in my love of history. I also indulged my fascination and love for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and used the research I’d already carried out into their lives.”
The Duchess not only loves writing books, she loves consuming too… “More recently I enjoyed The Accidental Empress by Allison Pataki, the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and Ken Follett’s Kingsbridge series.”
Whether she enjoys Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series is unknown but Fergie has admitted to watching Netflix’s Bridgerton inspired tv series… TWICE! Fergie told US Weekly, “The way Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes have created Bridgerton is fabulous and I was really impressed.” The world’s most famous red head loves Daphne’s character and the “incredible costumes.”
“I definitely will be talking to Shondaland about making Her Heart for a Compass into a TV series.” says the Duchess. We can not wait!
Her Heart For a Compass will be published by both HarperCollins Publishers and Harlequin UK on August 3, 2021.
