Goodbye @kensingtonroyal! Hello @dukeandduchessofcambridge! Prince William and Kate Middleton seem to be rebranding their social media profiles and leveling up! Welcome to YouTube HRHs! They had previously contributed to the official Royal Family YouTube account so the fact that they are developing their own YouTube account and content reveals how the Cambridge family will begin to brand themselves towards the future of the monarchy.
I think this fits appropriately within Prince Charles‘ “slimmed down monarchy” plan. For a smaller group of people to make an impact, their reach must be significant. It is in Prince William and Kate Middleton’s best interests to brand themselves apart from Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as their popularity soars in comparison.
And while I hate the constant comparison between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of California… this new YouTube channel allows William and Kate to develop Netflix quality content around the events and causes that are meaningful to them without the… Netflix.
Another interesting change is their Instagram, which they have switched from @kensingtonroyal to @dukeandduchessofcambridge. @kensingtonroyal was named after the fact that the couple works out of Kensington Palace. Prince Charles and Camilla’s handle remains @clarencehouse.
They have yet to switch their Twitter handle but they might simply just be limited to characters on that social media outlet.
