Have you seen Kristen Stewart bopping around the Venice Film Festival? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen her more confident and excited about a project before. Kristen told reporters that playing Princess Diana made her feel “free and alive.” She also described the Princess of Wales as “a sparkly house on fire.” The good news? Her enthusiasm is contagious.

The Hollywood Reporter had one of my favorite reviews describing the movie as “audaciously original.” Of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, they report, “She’s jittery, brittle, often abrasively defensive and yet deeply vulnerable in a film that puts her through a psychological wringer with shadings of outright horror.” Ok, well, that’s terrifying. WHAT IS IN STORE FOR US COMMONERS THAT HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE IT?

Director Pablo Larraín told Vulture, “Before they go to see a movie like Spencer, [people] might say, ‘We’re going to really understand who this person was.’ No! Wrong number! Wrong movie! We don’t do that!”

Spencer is set to be released in theaters on November 5th and is based on Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s last Christmas together. The movie description reads, “The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.”

The keyword being “imagining” but another is “fable.”

“We’re just trying to work with whatever that person was and create a fable out of it. That’s what I’m looking for. We’ll see if it works,” Larraín told media.

To hammer the fable theme home, NEON even captioned their Spencer poster, “Every fairy tale ends.”

I love The Guardian‘s headline, “Princess Diana’s disastrous marriage makes a magnificent farce” which also describes the film as “a full-blown Gothic nightmare.”

It sounds like there is no question that Diana will dominate award season.
