It was a play date for Will and Kate as they tried their hands at the claw, pinball, and various other arcade games. Today The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge carried out two engagements in South Wales. They cut loose at Island Leisure amusement arcades at Barry Island and made a very comical visit to Shire Hall, the Welsh care home.
The reason for the visit was to speak to local business owners about the lockdown and the toll that it’s taken on the tourism industry. The couple spoke to Hilary and Andrew Phillips who reopened their attractions this week. Local businesses have been paralyzed by the pandemic and the Cambridges hope to encourage people to shop small and visit when they feel safe enough.
After a few games, they ventured over to Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff where they reunited with a very special fan. Joan Drew-Smith, 87, was happy to formally meet the royals. During a virtual bingo game in May, Joan said their game “wasn’t as good as it should have been.” When the duke introduced himself, “Hello Joan, do you remember we did the bingo with you? You said we weren’t very good!” She fiercely responded, “Yes, you did a bloody sh$%ty job.” Both Will and Kate were hit with a fit of the giggles.
