The countdown is on! Lifetime is about to release their THIRD Prince Harry and Meghan Markle-inspired made-for-tv movie. First, there was Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, don’t forget Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, now we have Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace! Jordan Dean is Prince Harry and Sydney Morton is playing Meghan Markle. However, it was Lifetime’s Princess Diana that caught our eye! Thanks to a hashtag, we stumbled upon Bonnie Soper‘s Instagram. She bears a striking resemblance to the Princess of Wales, partially thanks to makeup and hairstylist, Amber Snow.
Snow seems to be one of Lifetime’s go-to stylists but you’ll also recognize her work on Riverdale or Disney’s Descendants. We asked Snow how she captured these historic figures for Lifetime’s latest Sussex saga.
Snow tells ToDiForDaily‘s Kinsey Schofield that she did, “Lots of research into the real people behind the story,” explaining that the team did, “our best to keep the looks true to character. Similar but not cloning anything. It’s important, especially with Diana, that you do her justice to that beautifully fluffed hair in any decade. Things like which side does the person part their hair on, what type of curl or wave or texture do they have, etc.”
And while recognizing the character with key traits is an important aspect of her job, Snow also caters to the actor’s unique characteristics. “You always try to get the looks close, recognizable, so people can really buy into what they are watching. The looks were done to match but still be flattering and fitting to the actual actor.”
When it comes to Princess Diana’s look, the BTS team stuck to Diana’s classic minimal makeup look featuring gently blushed cheeks and a perfectly dewy lip. We see a tiny hint of BBC Panorama Diana with the bottom lash liner.
One of Snow’s favorite characters to work on was Meghan Markle’s. She tells us, “The simplest look of the show, the ‘Meghan beach hair.’ Just down and simple, sunglasses in her hair. Sydney Morton, who plays Meghan Markle wears a wig, a choice that was made to not cause extensive daily heat damage to her naturally beautiful curly hair.” You know you’re working with a quality stylist when your hair’s health is their priority!
“I took over this show after a few days, and I’m absolutely thrilled with how blended and seamless I was able to get the wig. It’s so important to have the actor feel comfortable, the last thing they need is to worry about a wig slipping or falling off during a scene! We were able to get her morning prep time way down and maintain her lovely locks underneath the ‘magic.'”
Snow also made sure to credit makeup artists Leah Ehman and Jen Powell for having perfected Lifetime’s fresh-faced royal lewks.
Such cool insight! We can’t wait to see the finished product. Thank you for sharing Amber!
Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace premieres on Lifetime on Monday, September 6, 2021.
