IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… BECAUSE WE DID! – a recap of headlines from the British royal family

We have had severe problems with GoDaddy this week so I apologize for the delay and lack of frequency in posts.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… BECAUSE WE DID!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared during an ABC broadcast special unveiling of the 2020 TIME 100 list. The appearance caused extreme controversy as members of the royal family are instructed to keep a tight lip when it comes to politics. The Sussexes not only encourage voting but appear to lean towards a specific candidate during their scripted speech.

“Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime,” said Markle. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do and you deserve to be heard.”

Harry seems to be continuing his campaign of making the internet a more positive place – “When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourself in someone else’s shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It’s time to not only reflect, but act,” he said. “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.” Reactions have been mixed. Some royal watchers want the Sussexes completely stripped of their titles, others are calling for Meghan to run for President.

Speaking of voting, the next evening Meghan Markle appeared on the (voting based) competition reality series, America’s Got Talent to cheer on contestant Archie Williams.

“I just wanted to let you know that we have been so moved by your story and we have been cheering you on every week and it’s not just because we are partial to the name,” joked Markle. (Baby Archie reference.)

Williams spent decades in prison for a crime he did not commit which lead royal watchers to debate whether or not this is a cause that might interest Prince Harry and his wife. (Kim Kardashian is on the phone.)

After weeks – if not months – of speculation about Kate Middleton being preggo (rude!) we got a glimpse of the future Queen consort at Battersea Park in London. She wore precious pencil pants and a tight white tee. She was also rocking some crisp white Superga sneakers. She spoke to families about parent-to-parent support and cooed at sweet babies from a safe distance.

This week Sir David Attenborough broke Jennifer Aniston’s record for fastest time to reach a million followers on Instagram! Sir David launched an Instagram account to promote his new movie on climate change, A Life On Our Planet.

“I am making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me because, as we all know, the world is in trouble. Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying. Fish are disappearing from our oceans. The list goes on and on. Saving our planet is now a communications challenge.”

Sir David gave the Cambridge family a sneak peek at his documentary. It sounds like they had the most fun! According to Instagram, “When they met, Sir David gave Prince George a tooth from a giant shark. The scientific name of which is carcharocles megalodon (‘big tooth’).

Sir David found the tooth on a family holiday to Malta in the late 1960s, embedded in the island’s soft yellow limestone which was laid down during the Miocene period some 23 million years ago. Carcharocles is believed to have grown to 15 metres in length, which is about twice the length of the Great White, the largest shark alive today.” We would have loved to see Prince George’s reaction!

Although similar subjects, Sir David’s A Life On Our Planet is not the same film that Prince William has been working on. Prince William: A Planet For Us All is a documentary on his “search for ways to protect the natural world.” Diana’s oldest boy spent two years working on the movie. Prince William: A Planet For Us All will be released next month.

We also learned that Sir David and Prince William are working on a new project together. We’re looking forward to details.

Perhaps the most sentimental and romantic dress on display to the public, see Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress now at Windsor Castle. Bea chose to wear one of her grandmother’s dresses on her big day. The dress was originally designed by Sir Norman Hartnell but was tailored for the petite princess.

BABY ON BOARD! After weeks of speculation (we do that a lot, huh?) due to a specific maxi dress photo, it HAS BEEN confirmed that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child! The palace says, “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021. The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”

Although I included the image at the top, I find the Kate vs. Tatler battle way more interesting than a small mention. I will link the full post here… but here are CliffsNotes… Kensington Palace has insisted that Tatler edit its “cruel” profile piece on Catherine. Changes like this are rarely made and the author, from what I google, seems to be respected and credible so this is a big deal.
