What we know about Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s health crisis

Buckingham Palace has shared that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is currently recovering from surgery for a heart condition. The 99-year-old consort has spent over 2 weeks under hospital care now.

A spokesperson for the palace says The Duke of Edinburgh, “underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

I caught Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed, on Sky News discussing the reality of the ordeal and his (likely) long road to recovery… “He had an operation on his heart. He’s going to need time to recover,” said the author. “They’re not going to let him out of hospital until he’s strong enough to fight any potential problem that he might have. He’s got to be strong before they will let him out,” Seward reiterated.

According to ITV, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall says that Prince Philip is “slightly improving” but he “hurts at moments.” The Duchess says that they are keeping their fingers crossed.

The Mirror recently quoted one palace source as saying, “The staff and all the royal family are united in their prayers for the Duke.”

We are praying for him too.
